GMN Free Wheeling Clutches
Free Wheeling Clutches are unidirectional couplings, transmitting or supporting torque in one direction by friction and allowing idling in the opposite direction.
GMN manufactures sprag type clutches of two different sprag sizes to be used as indexing devices, backstopping clutches or overrunning clutches. Roller ramp supplements are also available.

The insert elements of sprag type clutches consist of a cage, sprags - number in relation to the shaft size - and a spring to preload the friction contact between the sprags and the mating parts. So called insert elements are not self centering and require additional bearing support for proper function as provided with our complete units, ball bearing sizes and backstopping clutches. |

The GMN ball bearing size free wheeling clutches are the perfect combination of bearing and clutch reduced to the original dimensions of ball bearing. Depending on the requirements these series may be supplied pregreased with RSR seals or with keywayed inner ring. The ball bearing sizes are a reliable and cost effective solution for many applications. |

GMN complete free wheeling clutch units are the perfect combination of GMN insert elements with hardened and ground rings and bearing support. Double seal and pregreasing are optional. |

GMN Backstopping Clutches with momentum lever are the combination of a complete unit out of series FND 400 with a momentum lever. |

Roller Ramp Clutches have 4 main components:
- The concentric and round raceway of the outer ring
- The star-like shaped configuration of the clamping ramps at the inner ring;
- The clamping rollers;
- Separate spring loading for each roller, based at the inner ring.
