The ball bearing sprag clutch includes a precision ball bearing. Additional external bearing support is not necessary.
Press Fit Information
Don’t apply pressure to the balls when press fitting.
Sprag clutches can be pressed in or can be pressed on machine parts composed of ferrous or nonferrous material. If you’re considering nonferrous material please contact us first.
Make sure to clean the area you will use for press-fitting & no grease is left in the press-fit area.
Hardening and grinding of the mating parts is not necessary.
Thoroughly clean the mating parts to ensure they are grease-free before press-fitting the sprag clutch’s rings.
The arrow on the inner ring designates the inner ring’s clamping direction.
The RS Seals reliably seal out grease and dust but is not suitable to protect against permanent higher levels of liquid.
Our FK 6203-RS has an RS seal on one side only (the seal is on the freewheel side).
Misc Information about Installing Ball Bearing Sprag Clutch Units
After installation a radial clearance between C2 and C5 will be reached. To create a clearance of C2 you should produce your shaft at the highest point and your housing at the lowest point of the allowed tolerances.
The RSR-seals used for these clutches would seal against dust and grease lubrication. Oil lubrication and merging into liquids is not possible. The “open” and “2RS” style are the standard program. With these types it is not necessary to specify clutch engagement direction.
With the “RS” style it is necessary to specify clutch engagement direction. A single seal is always mounted beside the clutch, not beside the ball bearing.
Engagement direction “right”: Engagement direction of the inner ring, view at the seal Engagement direction “left”: When ordering a Free-wheel Clutch with opposite engagement, the suffix “L” must be placed after the catalog number.
Lubrication: GMN Clutches (except the sealed clutches of series FK 62.. and FKN 62..) are shipped rust protected – not lubricated. Sealed ball bearing clutches “RS” and “2RS” are shipped grease lubricated for life time.

Machine parts, in which Free-wheel Clutches are pressed in or on, can be of ferrous or nonferrous material. If you are considering using nonferrous material please contact our technical staff first.
For pressed in or on Free-wheel Clutch rings no retainers are necessary for axial or radial security. The inner rings with keyway (type FN and FND) have to be secured in the axial direction only, if the pressed on outer machine part (gear or lever) is not axially secured. When mounting Free-wheel Clutches with bearings do not apply pressure to bearing balls.

Lubrication: Series type FPD 400 and FND 400 are shipped oil lubricated for a lifetime. Series type FN 400 and FP 400 are shipped rust protected – not lubricated.
