Unique Sprag Design

FE 8000 series sprag profile

GMN FE Performance Transmission Sprags feature a unique “non-lift-off” design that allows for up to double the torque capacity of leading sprag clutches on the market. Its advanced clamping curve geometry and spring design allows for instantaneous sprag engagement when transitioning from a freewheeling state to a driven or backstopping state of operation.

 

Unlike traditional sprag clutches, the GMN FE 8000 series has no RPM limit, overcoming previous constraints caused by centrifugal force thresholds. Our innovative design allows for increased clamping on the inner races as RPM levels increase, and allows for engagement at any RPM – an achievement no competitor can claim.

Reduced Freewheeling Wear

“Drag Clips” on other brands of sprag clutches (used to hold the sprag in those designs in place) create enough drag resistance to eventually create flat spots on the sprag. This freewheeling wear leads to eventual sprag failure, and vehicles seeing common highway miles or third gear driving can accelerate this wear.

 

The GMN FE Performance Transmission Sprag series is designed without drag clips, instead using an outer sprag spring to reduce drag and allow for the sprag to remain ready for instantaneous engagement when shifting back to second or first gear.
